Scaristavore
South Harris, Outer Hebrides
The external design of this building focused on mimicking the natural landscape around it as if the stone structure was rising from the ground itself. This was achieved using flamed Caithness facing stone to clad the outside of the building in a mixed palette of both grey and weathered coloured stone. From there, Caithness domestic paving provides access to the outdoor spaces and leads to steps made of large Caithness stones up to 2m in length and 140mm in thickness. Each of these steps have been hand dressed and built into the slope of the site as if it had always been there.
Complemented further with the use of other stone boulders and walling, this combination of Caithness flagstone products help blend in the hard lines of the buildings design allowing it to become a part of the natural landscape which surrounds it.
